Question Make Install

I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to install cbb-0.8.1 The only instructions are to unzip the file and then type "make install." I unzipped it with no problem but I keep getting the error message - command not found for make install.

I ran ./configure and received the following -

loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install . . . (cached) /usr/bin/install -c
checking for whether build environment is sane . . . yes
checking whether make sets ${MAKE} . . . (cached) no
checking for working aclocal . . . missing
checking for working autoconf . . . missing
checking for working automake . . . missing
checking for working autoheader . . . missing
checking for working makeinfo . . . found
checking whether make sets ${MAKE} . . . (cached) no
checking for a BSD compatible install . . . /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether ln -s works . . . (cached) yes
checking for perl . . . (cached) usr/bin/perl
checking for wish . . . (cached) usr/bin/wish
creating ./config.status
creating Version
creating Makefile
creating cbb
creating contrib/Makefile
creating demo Makefile
creating docs Makefile
creating graphs Makefile
creating images Makefile
creating languages Makefile
creating reports Makefile

I'm using Mandrake Linux 8.1 and I'm definitely a newbie!

Any advice greatly appreciated. I tried GNUcash which came with my software but didn't care for it and don't want to continue using Quicken.

Generally the process for building from source goes a little like this.

./configure - (helps the app decide if you have the required dependant libraries/binaries installed on your system and builds the Makefile which contains the script to get the code compiled for your platform. )

make - compiles and links the source code

make install - puts the compiled code where it can be used (ie /usr/local/bin). This usually needs to be done as root.

I ran make immediately after ./configure and received - command not found.

Then I tried the make install anyway and received the same error message.

I did all of this as the root user.

You need to install the rpm's for these from your mandrake cd's.
