Make.conf Permission Error.

I have a small issue on my hands. I don't know how I could elaborate upon it or give more information about it but: My make.conf file has a problem being accessed. I open up a terminal, type su and put my password in, gaining access to the root account. Then I type in /etc/make.conf and it says that I do not have permission to access the file. I have no idea what caused this problem. One moment it was working and the next it wasnt. I am running VLOS 1.2 on gnome.

I don't think you can execute make.conf.

It says at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml that I should be able to just open it and insert the lines of code, needed to get my sound to work.

Yes, open it. Not execute it.

Haha, I feel like an idiot. I was confusing open with execute. Thanks for your help with my simple question.
