mailing listserv question

I am looking for a mailing list program that is easy to maintain, and reasonably secure. My purpose is that I have a customer that needs to email 700 to 1500 clients regular updates. The only way I want them to do this is if they use a listserv program that can handle closed loop opt-ins. And can also handle very simple removal from the list. The only thing I can find is Majordomo-- which seems to be a pain to setup. Majordomo may be the best option though. I have done some googling but with all the mailing list programs out there designed for spammers I am not sure which ones I find that are really reputable and which ones are for spamming. I only want the reputable programs or services.

Thanks for any help.

I run half a dozen listserves, varying from a few members to several hundred. Most of the ISP's I use use mailman, which is, from a list administrators point of view, extremely easy to administer. Mailman can also be installed on your own server, and it is available from repositories for most distros.

My ISP charges me $10 a month per mailing list, and I don't have to worry about keeping the machine up 24-7. Mailman also has built-in email address checking, so if someone moves and doesn't tell you, he or she will be removed from the list automatically, if you choose.

I use both islandnet.com and webnetworks for my lists, although I think you'll find mailman available at many ISPs - and, of course, you can always run it on your own Linux or Unix server.

Thanks for the advice. I think Mailman is the route I am going to take. I haven't set it up yet, but by reading the install info it seems like it is going to be much easier then MajorDomo.
