mail servers slowed down kde
so i was playing around with different mta's last night and something seems to have effected kde.
i had postfix and sendmail installed. only working with one at a time. i noticed kde getting slower, so when i was done i uninstalled both, including sasl-auth. i also made sure that i had no extra services running, at least none that i wasn't using before. all packages were *-mdk now programs take an exponentialy longer time to start. stuff that was intantaneous, takes a few secons; stuff that took a few seconds can take 30+. any ideas as to what could have been changed? mandrake 10 kernel 2.6.* kde 3.2 thanks |
certainly couldn't have a chance of saying what it was that you actually did.. we're not psychic... but i'd guess at a couple of areas to look at first. Check that it's not a CPU issue by checking the used percentages in "top" and also as it was network related and KDE thinks it's so clever, possibly it's not able to resolve it's own hostname or something, check /etc/hosts entries are still acurrate etc...

sorry to be so vague.
i also checked to make sure there were'nt any procs eating processor time. i also left all settings as default per the mandrake rpm. i forgot to check /etc/hosts though. i'll take a look around when i get home are there any other places that sendmail might change network settings? |
