Macos X like executable file


Hi all,

I want to know if it is possible under linux to compile a program
and get only one file, like MacOS X, not like linux were i usualy
get file in /usr/bin /usr/lib etc...

You may be interested in AppDirs, and ROX in general:
http://rox.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/static.html

However, if you see only one file for an application, it is almost never the reality. It is rather a display "trick", to improve usability, and simplify things. Other files are actually there but you don't see them.

Another project that may interest you is GoboLinux:
http://www.gobolinux.org/
It is probably more complete, as it is an entire Linux distribution.

As the above poster said, it really isn't "one file". In OS X, the .app you see is really a specially formatted folder. In terminal you can actually cd into it and see the directory structure. The closest thing Linux has would be statically linked binary packages.
