Mac-Style Application Switcher
 

I use Linux (Arch Linux with KDE) and Mac, and one of the things I really miss in Linux is OS X's application switcher: one keyboard shortcut (by default Cmd-Tab) switches between applications, and a different one (by default Cmd-`) switches between windows of the application you're currently using. For instance, to switch from Firefox to Terminal I would use Cmd-Tab, and to switch between multiple Terminal windows I'd use Cmd-`.

In KDE, at least, the default behavior is simply to switch between any open windows when you use Alt-Tab. Can anyone recommend an application switcher that would provide Mac-like functionality? Or perhaps a window manager that would do so?

Go in the special effect section of KDE config and set it as you like. I think there is a checkbox for switching between the same application. You can also change the visual to use Expose style switcher instead of boxes.

Thanks, I tried that, and under "Window Behavior" I was able to set a few options in "Navigate Through Windows." However, none of the options under "List windows" include the ability to look at just the windows for the current application. Otherwise, using walk through windows and the alternative walk through windows would be just what I'm looking for.

Have you tried ALT-TAB to switch applications and CTRL-TAB to switch within apps?

ALT-TAB works for me in Fluxbox and in my unmodified KDE on Slackware to switch apps. (I'm a Fluxbox kind of guy.)

CTRL-TAB works in the Opera browser to switch among browser windows, but that might be an Opera thing. I seldom have multiple windows in any application other than a browser.

Its under Desktop effect -> all effect -> present window -> activation -> toggle windows (current class)
