lvremove issue

I have unmouted the filesystem and tried to remove the lv. But it gives me this error.

# lvremove /dev/optvg/fs_opt_mqm
lvremove -- can't remove open logical volume "/dev/optvg/fs_opt_mqm"

Please advise what can cause the problem.

It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon Update 6)

I am having the same problem today. I'm running RHEL3 kernel 2.4
