lprng+slack 9.0 + apsfilter == messed up margins???

So, I spent hours trying to get CUPS+Slack to work with no success. Gave up and tried lprng+foomatic. Weird errors there. Switched over to lprng+gimp-print+apsfilter+espgs7.07.1. Printing works. Yay! Text files look fine. However, printing in postscript emacs and from openoffice really has messed up margins. Where do I start fixing these? Is it a ppd thing, a gimp-print thing, a ghostscript thing, an apsfilter thing, a per-application thing? You get the idea, there are so many components to printing in linux, I don't know what really does what.
Also, the fonts print in a relative dark gray, but I'd rather they were as black as possible. This is unimportant to me though compared to getting the margins fixed. In openoffice, centered paragraphs have the right half cut off the right side of the page!

Thanks for any help,
Zach

p.s. Printer is Canon BJC-210

So, I got rid of the gimp-print driver and used the ghostscript driver for bj-200 b&w. Prints much darker, and margin problems are gone for the most part, except for a little cut off when printing webpages. If anyone knows how to do minor mods to margins to expand or move them on the imageable area, I'd like to know. But, I am amped that I got printing working after nearly a month!!!
