lpr: command not found and scheduler trouble

I've been having some trouble with lpr recently, most notably

$ lpr
bash: lpr: command not found

I've tried to track it down and following the links
$ ls -l /usr/bin/lpr
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Jul 1 2002 /usr/bin/lpr -> /etc/alternatives/print
$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/print
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Apr 29 2003 /etc/alternatives/print -> /usr/bin/lpr.LPRng
$ ls -l /usr/bin/lpr.LPRng
ls: /usr/bin/lpr.LPRng: No such file or directory

I've also tried

$ lpr.cups
lpr: error - scheduler not responding!

I've tried all the various lprish things in /usr/bin but have had the same scheduler error and I've tried freshening the RPM but have had no success. The machine is running Fedora Core 1.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance, thank you.
