Love my kjots, but ....
 

Kjots fits exactly with the way I work. However, me and root are the same guy, and I want to use the same set of files/books when I am in root as I use when I am user. I have tried every command and access permission I can think of and I still can't make /home/Bill/.kde/apps/kjots/"books" that I use in user available to kjots when I am root.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the same set of books available to me when I am either in root or user?

PS I have the same problem with Ximian Evolution - I don't want two sets of files there either.

Have you tried creating up a new group with root and user as members then set group permissions?

I know where you are going with that question. No I don't use the root account for normal work -- I use Windows. But when I am in root fixing stuff and installing stuff that is when I most often come across things to check on; learn about; update or otherwise make note of. I use kjots all the time and would love to have those notes available to me as user so that I can followup on them; as well as for the occasions user has thought of things for root to take care of.

I have not only thought of making a super group, I've tried it. But /.kde has to be part of the path which is supposed to be a hidden directory and only works if I use kjots in root as a link.

Besides I thought that root had access to all files and setting up a super group shouldn't be necessary. More importantly to me, because I can't make it work it probably means I don't understand something that I thought I did understand. So I would like to solve it rather than work around it.

have you tried making a sysmlink from the root kjots configuration folder to the normal user folder??
