Talking Lost /var

Couple of days a ago my whole /var directory just died... That ain't good, that's for sure... So I wasn't able to boot linux properly... I couldn't restore it so I simply copied the whole /var directory from a live cd to my linux partition... Maybe that's a bit stupid, but anyway it seemed to work fine afterwards... The only problem for now is the lost RPM database (it is quite hard to install an rpm when you've got to guess the dependencies every time)! Is it possible to rebuild this database? I have been trying to google for the answer, but the only thing I found was "rpm --rebuilddb" (which doesn't actually seem to work for me)...

Take a look here
http://users.ev1.net/~starfan/howto/...rpm/index.html

It should be something like
rpm -i -v --nodeps --noscripts --notriggers --excludepath / \

But again, look at that link and follow those directions. Alway Always backup everything first too.
