Looking for Linux Equivalent of Screenflow or Camtasia or, at least, iMovie

Hello, Jellos.

I'm looking for a Linux app which will serve as something like Camtasia or Screenflow, but it has to record video and audio from the webcam. This is for a class which I record and upload as a file, where the dominant view is of my fancy talking head. I have used Screenflow to integrate a Powerpoint into my class in the past, but if there is no equivalent program for Linux then something like iMovie would be just fine. If I can't integrate screencapture and video recording, it would be at least nice to be able to write words on the screen during the talk, as you can in iMovie.

I've checked out some other posts including a discussion of running Camtasia on Wine (sources say no), but I'm open to that kind of odd fix. I do have access to Windows and Mac operating systems, but I'd like to figure out how to do this on Linux.

Any recommendations?

Thank you, cheese cubes.

I looked through those links and none of them appear to do the webcam recording that is a necessity for my class (moreso than screencasting). Perhaps I was not clear in my question, but I need a program that will record video from a webcam. It would be a nice secondary feature to screencast.

I did try Kdenlive, but it is instable, and I couldn't find a fix -- constant crashing. I have the same problems with Cheese that everyone else has - no audio, freezing on video. I got Mencoder but holy jesus I'm not ready for working with a GUI yet.

Do any of those programs record webcam video and just don't say so in their descriptions? Or are there any programs that anyone knows of that does record webcam video? There has to be something out there.

Thank you all.

Let

RecordMyDesktop, Wink and xvidcap are indeed for screencasting.
Kino and Cinelerra (and most other video editors) can record directly from your cam.

I think you meant CLI, not GUI (Graphical User Interface).
Mencoder uses V4L and isn't that difficult at all (that is if all your drivers are fully functional).

They list it as input.
Kino even offers video HOWTO's for this.

PS: Does your cam work with other apps like skype and friends (in gnu-linux) ?

I meant GUI, but I might be wrong. I could only open Mencoder through the terminal, and it's a little over my head to edit and record video through the terminal.

My camera works just fine with Skype, and it could work with Kdenlive if the thing weren't crashing. I've gotten a few short clips. Also worked in Cheese but, again, no sound.

Sounds like Kino and Cinellera are worth a try. Thank you very much!
