looking for good simple php editor
 

I've been using a program called CodeWhiz as a text editor for php on windows machines. it's always been my favorite for as far back as I can remember. they're switching over to linux workstations at work now, and I don't like the editors they have so I'm looking for a new one. I'm looking for one with a nice feel to it, easy to read text, line numbers a MUST HAVE, and tabs for different open files, then use ctrl+tab to switch between open files and ctrl+s to save quickly. those are the things I need in a text editor. besides that, I'd like it to be simpler without the syntax highlighting and other junk. but a built in cvs client would be good to have too. if anyone could help me find a program like this, it would be really great. I'd be getting a lot of use out of it both at work and at home.

Quanta and Bluefish have all the features you need, but they are not simple text editors but web development apps. KATE, KVIM and GVIM can also do as you want. You didn't mention which editors you did not like, it may be helpful if you mention them so that other members don't suggest them.

I like bluefish. that looks nice from the screenshots. what is a good emulator to run that program in windows 2000 pro?

Not sure why you are asking for a emulator to run it on Windows 2000. First of all I don't believe there is an emulator that would let you run it straight in Windows. You could set up vmware (expensive) or try running a liveCD that has Bluefish when you are stuck on the Windows PC. I believe Puppy Linux is a LiveCD that has Bluefish. A liveCD enables you to run a Linux Distribution from the CD-ROM without installing anything to the hard drive or even touching the hard drive. Files can always be saved onto a floppy or on a USB mass storage device.

Otherwise, if you like Codewize on Windows, use that, and when at work on Linux use Bluefish. Nothing wrong with knowing two different editors.

I personally like Bluefish on Linux and Crimson Editor on Windows. They keep me happy in my split worlds. However, the more I use Linux the less I find myself using Windows and my Windows favorites.

or if u want it for windows u can try phpedit (free for noncommerial use). Thats an alright editor. I used to use it before I decided on linux being my main OS.
