looking for gift

i followed the instructions from

and think that everything went ok. i also did "gift-setup" and everything went fine also, hopefully. now i am wondering how to get the program up and running. i clicked on the main menu (redhat 9) and clicked run and typed gift and it said that it failed to execute.
i appreciate yiour help

"gift" is not a program. there is "giftd" which is the daemon for gift and then you use your choice of client, like giFTcurs, gifToxic etc....

i downloaded the two files under gift and gift-openftp

what would you suggest i do if this isnt correct?

OpenFT is giFT's own network, if I'm not mistaken, so you'd probably want to download and install ALL of the gift-* so you can connect to as many networks as possible. Perhaps you should look at the UNIX installation Guide over at their website.

A README file is a terrible thing to waste! For instance, the giFT README suggests the following

A brief perusal of QUICKSTART reveals this little nugget:

Remember that the giftd binary you are likely interacting with is just a
simple daemon intended to be used through the interface protocol over TCP/IP
sockets. By default only machines within your local network can access the
interface port, however additional security may be defined and may even be
turned on by default in the future.

# giftd -d

and

To test your daemon run the giFTcurs program (available at
http://www.nongnu.org/giftcurs), which will attempt to connect to the daemon
on the host and port you configured in $HOME/.giFT/ui/ui.conf.
