Looking for an MP3 player that can run without X server

Hello,

I'm looking for a MP3 radio player via internet (ie. like Amarok, XMMS...) that does not need any X interface or window manager.

The reason is I'm currently configuring a thin client diskless and fanless with low RAM to be used only as an internet radio.
I would like to run it without X server to spare memory.
The command line mode will be fair enough to load or swap the MP3 feeds.

Thanks for your attention.
Any ideas are welcome.

Bye,
Bruno

There are tons of cli media players available. For simple uses mplayer works great. You may need to try out a few of the more dedicated players though if you need more advanced features like playlists. A few seconds on google popped up this article that mentions many of the popular ones. Not sure how many of them have stream playing ability though.

mpg321 is a great command line player I use all the time.

Hi,

Try mp3blaster,I use it all the time.
or mpg321 (mpg123 clone).

or even mplayer, you may just need to take a stroll through its man pages though (add the win32 codecs and you can play anything right on the CLI)

Consider mplayer: http://www.mplayerhq.hu - I think the most flex and power decision.
Especially, there are a few minimal distro based on: http://movix.sourceforge.net/, http://www.geexbox.org/ etc.
Have a fun
