Looking for a nice filebrowser [which one is this?]

Hello!

I'm looking for a nice file browser like the one in windows (one of the only good things from MS) I'm currently using konqueror but it's so darn ugly.

Does anyone know what this app is called?

Icons make me think of ROX, though not the ROX I'm using myself. But then... I'm still using the ROX from two years ago...

Yes I would recommend Rox too. It looks nice and does the same job as the Windows filer. You can also get themes for it, if you don't like it's default appearance. And since it's fairly lightweight it will install and run on older computers too.

Konqueror and Nautilus always seemed so unnecessarilly big to me, so I use Rox now and it works just fine :)

Thanks you two!

Rox seems great, I'll download it tonight. I just hope you can see the file tree like in ms...

I don't think u can do it with rox :/

jasone 04-27-2005 07:11 AM

No?

Any other tip them? I would like it very clean and light but with icons and previews and most important a file tree.

I often dream about using Evidence:
http://evidence.sourceforge.net/
Unfortunately for me, I never managed to get it installed, because it has a lot of requirements, and it's a pain without a direct access to Internet. But if you're more lucky than me, please let me know if it is as good as it seems to be! :)

Yeah evidence seem better but is for enlightenment and I is most comfortable with fluxbox. Now I used rox for a few hours and only have 2 problems with it otherwise it's great.

The 2 problems:

1. No file tree
2. No right click and choose open with

These two options is a must for me and as I said before konqueror sucks big time!

Hi, you might try just customizing Konqueror. It can be made to look many different ways, and the way I have it set up it looks very much like the windows FM. You might also try using a different icon theme. Can you post a screenshot of your current Konqueror? Maybe we can help you customize it to your liking.

That is the old Gnome File Manager...

Remember that from Redhat 6

Thanks!

I'll check out the old gnome file manager, seems to be it.

About konqueror: Because I use fluxbox there are limited fonts & font size options or have I missed that somewhere? What I want is simplicity and as I said before:

1. File tree
2. Right click and choose "open with:"

Sorry have no web space foe screen shots =(

theYinYeti 04-28-2005 02:14 AM

From the given link, it seems that your screenshot *is* indeed gmc.

As a side-note, though: there's no such thing as a file manager for a given environment. Different X programs use different toolkits, but if you have those libraries, then any program will work with any environment. That's a basic rule in the Linux world. That's the basement of our Choice :)

Ok didn't know that cause of fluxbox's feature list from their website:

# KDE support
# Partial GNOME support

theYinYeti 04-28-2005 06:13 AM

True.
This means that Fluxbox does not yet support all of Gnome's extra features, that are not part of the X protocol.

I don't know the details for Fluxbox, but for example if you run the "gnome panel" inside Fluxbox, it might appear in the task list/windows list, instead of being hidden, or maximized windows might overlap this panel instead of coming border-to-border. Nothing more "dangerous" than that :)

PathFinder (part of the Fox Toolkit) is very Windows Explorer-like.
