XMMS hasn't supported .aac from what I've come to know of it. I'm getting some error where it closes when I try to do anything with it anyways right now. Lemme play around with it to see if I can get it to work.
Edit: XMMS is also not handling M3U playlists like I would hope it would. Totem is currently doing a better job. If Totem would be able to handle .aac files, it would be my media player of choice.

I think you would need a plugin for that with XMMS, try getting them here: http://xmms.org
Anyhoo, try MPlayer: http://mplayerhq.hu
It's harder to use, but with the correct libraries and codecs, it'll support anything.
