Help,

Downloaded the Loki Doom III Multilanguage.run file
Run the .run file and got the 'doom iii' install screen.

Clicked on the 'install now' button, one file is processed (i think), and then i get a box titled 'Choice Request' Mount Doom III Disc One.

I've tried allsorts without success. Sorry if this is a 'lame' question, but i'm a windows man normally.... and might end up staying that way...

will carry on searching these forums.

I believe it's asking for the Doom CD. The linux version requires you to have some of the proprietary software from the original Doom game.

Once I got legacy doom working. Legacy Doom required some *.wad files from the original game which I didn't have. In the end I got the *.wad files from a completely free version of doom. Can't remember the details.

But my point is that it's all possible.

p.s:Have you tried the latest Unreal Tournament Demo! Thats the only game I play on my PC and it works great. Love the multiplayer.

the cd is already in the drive. which is what i can't understand. It asks me to 'mount' the disk, but on my desktop there's a 'dvd' icon which is already mounted.


so confusing this linux is...

Try this to mount:

1.) su
2.) <enter root password>
3.) umount -a
4.) mkdir /mnt/cdrom
5.) mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom -t auto

Then try the LOKI installer.

Tell me if it works, I'll try to help as much as I can.

cheers vxc69. I'm also new to Linux and had the same problem with installing Doom 3 and your suggestion helped.

When using the mount command though I had to specify the file system aswell with :

mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvdram /mnt/cdrom

with /dev/[name of device] (which I found from /etc/fstab)
aslo, for reference, i had to open a new shell window (the old was busy?) and use the following command to unmount cd1 etc.

umount /mnt/cdrom

then mount cd 2 and so on ...
