Login denied to phpmyadmin under ubuntu 7.10 and Firefox

Hello,
Something I can't seem to get fixed, just can't login to phpmyadmin.
My webhost provides a phpmyadmin panel to provide me access to the MySQL databases I have running there.
I just switched to Ubuntu 7.10, and use Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.8 to browse.
Never used linux before last week I must say (except at work where we have a few red hat's running), and had (and still have) no problems logging in to the phpmyadmin under windows, also using the latest Mozilla.
I accept all cookies from the hosting, login page is at http://server9.firstfind.nl/phpmyadmin/, I allow all cookies server9.firstfind.nl and www.phpmyadmin.net, and also from www.yourhosting.nl, even allowed add-ons and such, just opened as far as I could find within the firefox preferences, but I just can't get in.., always get #1045 - Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx'@'localhost' (using password: YES), where xxxx is my username correctly.
And I'm sure that the password and username are correct, have no issue at all when under windows.
Also I installed Galeon so I'd have a different browser to try from, but still nada..
Anybody hear of this, or know of a specific port that needs opening or anything at all that might be of any help?
This, and an alternative for Macromedia's Flash are the only minus points, and plusses are in great majority for the rest, but it's quite irritating just the same.
Many thanks already,

Heyme

This is how one user on these forums solved that problem.

problem solved specified connection method in config.default.php in phpmyadmin and worked like a charm

Problem is: phpmyadmin runs at my provider, and I can login fine under windows, but cannot change anything on the phpmyadmin files and version running.
Since I can login under windows they blame it on my OS..
