I currently run VirtualBox on an Ubuntu Server, with 6 XP Guests running data processing jobs. Due to an increased workload I am looking to improve on this and run about 10 times as many guests.

The current Server is a HP G3 Unit, so is Pre-Intel-VT which I believe limits my choice of Software somewhat for the time being. I also have similar aged G3 and G4 units that I can add to the setup, but for the time being I want to keep any investment in new hardware to a minimum.

What I don't want to do is manage 10 Servers independently, I want to have one "point of contact" From a management point of view, In the past I have used PHPVirtualBox to do this, and I found it really didn't do what I wanted.

Can anybody suggest a way to treat all the servers as "one big server" as far as virtual box is concerned (or suggest an alternative to VirtualBox that can run on this older hardware)

Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.

What's the reason you have to run each job on it's own guest?

It's quick to process 6 jobs in parallel, but the application will only run one instance at once.

That's the source of problem, is there no way to fix it?

Does it run under wine? You could try a "wineprefix" for each instance.

I suspect you are seeing the problem different to the way I am seeing the problem, not to say either way is wrong. What do you see as the problem??

I am happy with the current "running in virtualbox" for each instance and run several guests. What I am looking to do is find a way to manage running more guests that are run on more hardware, as if they were all one actual server. If you can suggest an alternative approach, i would be very much interested. I have already ruled out wine before I went down the virtualbox route though.

Having to provide hardware and admin for an OS per application instance is incredibly inefficient.

Have you exhausted all possibilities to get around this restriction?

Do you have no support from the developer or access to the source code?
