I'm building a HTPC and am planning on using
LinuxMCE. I've been reading about the extensive capabilities of LinuxMCE and am pretty excited about wiring up my "Smart Home."
What I'm even more excited about is my new G1 and the crazy possibilities that Android offers. There is an Android app that has been out for a while called
Gmote that reportedly works with Linux. This is an app that turns your phone into a basic remote for your media center (stop, play, etc.) I believe you can browse files with it as well.
My ultimate goal is to be able to control all aspects of my smart home from my Android phone. I want to be able to control my movies and music, turn on/off electronics, see live video/audio from network cameras on my G1 screen, control light dimming, everything.
I seriously doubt we are anywhere near this kind of seamless integration between the two platforms, but that's what I would like to see someday.
Anyway, I'd like to hear from people using Gmote and LinuxMCE. What has your experience been like? Do they work well together? What are the capabilities and limitations? Is initial setup difficult?
Thanks for your feedback.
