Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

i haven't completely switched over to linux because i am not as efficient enough yet. for background purposes i started a clothing company in southern california which i do pretty much everything by myself right now. i'm a mandraker with a dual win2k pro situation for only a couple reasons. 1. i need to be able to use adobe products. the font situation i have going on in the pdf viewer in linux kind of pisses me off.
how do you get the correct font appearance from X? i feel there are font substitutions going on that make the appearance uncomfortable.
2. my distiller, illustrator and acrobat deal so i can create catalog pdf files with all the toppings. my question is i would need winex to properly run these apps correct? has anyone tried running these apps with winex? if so can you offer suggestions. I also want to know if the distiller printer driver that is added in windows as a virtual printer going to cause mass hysteria?
i don't mind f'in my OS up since I have the dual boot and seperate harddrives and back it all up like it was a group of drunk chicks. i've probably installed mandrake 8.2 honestly 15 times, 9.0 about 5 in the last week. only because i am learning.....
Ok, here is my 2cents on creating the catalogs. I had a need to be able to create pdf's with bookmarks and things like that for a long time. I had tried LaTex and did not get anywhere. I just forgot about it for a while until someone posted about a program called Scribus.
Now with Scribus I can create my pdf's with bookmarks. Don't know if this is the kind of program you are looking for, but it has served my needs for pdf creation with bookmarks.
It is a Desktop Publishing program simular to Adobe Pagmaker. I was able to set it up to see my true type fonts for good looking pdf's. It will export to pdf 4.0 and 5.0 and with very good quality.
