in the package alsa-tools
there is a utility "as10k1" it's an assembler for the emu10k1 DSP chip in the Creative SB Live, PCI 512, and emu APS sound cards. It is used to make (compile) audio effects .
some assemby effects "*.asm" files come as examples
as10k1 <EFFECT>.asm
gets you <EFFECT>.bin files
ok this is where i get a little lost
i think there are some tools called emu-tools that are for the old OSS driver that can load the .bin effects files a tool "emu-dspmgr" is appearently a powerfull tool to program the chip
read
http://www.linuxlogin.com/linux/emu10k1.php
but it's only for the old OSS driver i think ???? not sure
and i think ALSA can't load the effects yet (big help that assembler is then huh.)
in the ALSA-tools package it just says to load the .bin files (..TO DO..) ?????????
and it's been that way forever -- i ssaw someone working on a loader on the developers board once but it's never got done.
wish i had more info
i've been afraid to go farther with this idea.
but i have used the old OSS driver for the card some and it seems to work good
