Linux PHP install

I am installing PHP on RH 8 and I get this error
error: cannot create %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

I dloaded and put in /tmp
su -
cd /tmp
rpm -i php-4.0.4pl1-9.src.rpm

and get the above error.

FYI. I will be using the comp and my web server and will also be installing apache and I get the same error when I try to install it.

thanks much
Jason

Hmmm......

That's a source rpm...You need all kinds of libraries and tools to make that happen. Do you have gcc, make, glibc, glibc-devel, binutils, kernel-source, and libc?

ummm...maybe I will ask another question then. What is the easiest way to install php and Apache?

I went to
http://www.redhat.com/support/resour.../database_php/
and tried following those directions. Is there a better way?

again thanks

Get CD 3...

If you want, it should be on your install CD's. Just go to (redhatIcon)==>(System Tools???) ==>Packages. It'll be there.
