Linux on SATA, problems installing.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ s939 Veniice
MSI RS480 M2-IL
1Gb DDR 400
250 Gb seagate barracuda

I have problem installing linux on my SATA seagate hdd.
Tried
FC 2,3,4
FC 4 tries to load sata drivers but freezes there and goes no further.
Is this a problem with My CD and should i download again.

I do not know how can i configure the kernel or whatever. Also i have no idea what kernel have i tried with FC4 now. What kernel do u guys think should detect my SATA.

I have installed both Suse 92. and 9.3 on a SATA drive no problem. FC4 has an equivalent kernal, I believe, so I doubt that that is your problem. I would check all of your hardware connections, and then try and download FC4 again. You could try Suse as well, just to see if it works. If Suse doesn't work, then its probably a hardware issue.

If the hard drive is in a raid 0 array it will not install it could be a lot of other random things stopping it too. Check out this thread: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...0&page=&pp=15& it has some boot commands that may help. Even if the problem in that thread seems undrelated try each of the commands anyway. You may find one that works. The first one I reccomend is linux ide=nodma because it is related to hard drives.

I have also installed FC2 on a SATA HDD. It depends on the chipset etc. The same FC2 CD would not install it on this config. And it's not one but three machines i am talking about. So it's not a hardware problem.
The one i installed FC2 on was a MSI K8MM via chipset motherboard (socket A) with AMD XP 2600+ proc.


And there is just one HDD in my system.

just because there is one hard drive doesnt mean it isnt set in an array. I have a single hard drive and no version of fedora would install on it unless it was in raid 1. try the link i listed it could help.
