linux on same hdd/ different computer

hi, I tried to install linux on a hdd and then changed the laptop..
it's the only way I can get it on my old laptop.

so, I installed it on a p3 and then changed the computer with a p55 200mhz. of course it did not boot.. LILO/GRUB works, and then a bunch of INIT 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 6 error messages or plain restart.

I tried fedora1 and suse9 .. I also have debian..

can anyone help?

I do not require graphical environment, if that helps..

thanks

p.s. if anyone knows how to install linux without bootable cd-rom and without floppy (I tried before by booting partitions that had the contents of a floppy but I busted my boot partitions after not succeeding..)
p.p.s. can I use a program that boots partitions and boot cd-rom from it? the drivers are not loaded, right?

My gut-feeling is to say "it should work" ...

Try booting with the kernel-parameter init 1 or single
and see what it does ... if it still stops or reboots post
at which exact step it does it.

As fas as other methods of installation go ... I don't know
whether there are PCMCIA cards with boot-proms out
there, and if there are, whether the machine would be
able to utilise that ...

Cheers,
Tink

Thumbs down

at fedora I wrote 'kernel /vmlinuz'etc. and then 'boot simple'
after I do that it's plain restart..

is that what I had to do?

p.s. the laptop doesn't have usb
