Linux on an intel core duo / SCSI

Sometime next year I plan on building myself a computer from the ground up to run Linux.. I want the fastest hardware around within my budget of course. My question is, is the intel core duo line of processors allready been optimized to be used in the latest versions of linux kernels or will I not see any significant speed differences? And how about SCSI HDs, are those fully supported as well? And yes I know I don't need an intel core duo CPU to run linux.

Thanks in advance,

Claudio

The Core Duo runs great, infact it's better than the Pentium D series for 32 bit. IF you need 64 bit, go with the Core 2 duo. It has even more optimizations in silicon over the Core Duo. As to hard drives, just go with SATA. They're cheaper than SCSI, as fast (if not faster), and support hotplugging. There are plenty of raid controllers available that are supported in Linux as well.
