Talking Linux on a laptop

I am new, so let me start by saying hello to all who read this. I am Jay, and I'll be posting here often.
I was just wondering if someone could point me to an AFFORDABLE laptop that is at least somewhat Linux friendly. I am in the market and want to make a wise decision. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much

if you're looking for an affordable laptop, then my suggestion would be to try best buy/circruit city/compusa or any other electronics store, and ask if they have any returned machines. they'll knock at least a few hundred bucks off the price, and the laptop is brand new... it's just that someone else returned it.

i know a few people who have done this and are very happy with what they got. and as far as store bought laptops go, sony is probably the best supported. though overall i think thinkpads are the most widely supported laptops on the market.
