linux noob requires easy install amd64 linux...

....can anyone help? This will be my first ever linux install and I want it to be as easy as possible....mandrake 10 beta 2 for amd64 any good? I know its in beta but someone I asked seemed to think this was the best solution. I want something free as I don't know if I am going to keep a linux OS - I want to evaluate it first. If I decide to keep it then I am more than happy to pay for it. I paid M$ for god's sake LOL.

EDIT: Sorry, just realised I have posted this in the wrong forum. I apologise. I will re-post it in Lunux Distro's. Could an admin delete it from here please?
