Linux Mint - how do you configure Kate?
I just installed Kate text editor in Linux Mint 17.1 and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get to the settings dialog. I recall a preference or settings menu, but I can't seem to find that anywhere. How do I get to that dialog? I want to change some default stuff like showing line numbers, and I also want to change the theme.
I think you will find most of what you are looking for under the "View" and "Tools" menus. For example, "View" is where you find "show line numbers." Tools is where you select your encoding and much other stuff (Tools-->Mode for encoding, for example).
Once you get it configured to your liking, use the "Sessions" menu to save that session. When you open Kate the next time, you will get a dialog to select your session type.
I could have sworn it should be under Edit or something and called Preferences or Configure Kate or something along those lines. I see no option like that in any of the menus.

So on my home system in Kubuntu I hae more options under "Settings". One of them is "Configure Kate". But on the Mint System the only options I have under Settings are the first two. "Show toolbar" and "show status bar".

This was already installed as default. This is a brand new install. I also googled and found someone else having the issue. It was one of those really terribly designed text based forums though that are really hard to navigate, did not get much out of it. Another interesting thing is if you go to file open it crashes. The user I found having the same issue was having that issue too. I need to try to find that post again. Searching for kate is hard because it's a common name so get tons of irrelevant results.
If I try to launch it from command line as (mine or another user) this is what I get:
Code:
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
kate(25197)/kdeui (KIconLoader): Error: standard icon theme "oxygen" not found!

Tried to uninstall/reinstall but did not change anything. Mind you that output gives me a bit more stuff to google for... going to see what I find.
