Linux Mint Audio-Recorder Output Not Played by Speaker

2016-12-28

I hear no sound when I play back (.wav/.ogg) recordings made by audio-recorder regardless of the audio sound source or audio playback program. I see the recorder registering input sound whether it comes from the CD player or microphone. I can see Clementine or Banshee work properly when I attempt playing the recordings from the command line.

I think I've set up audio-recorder correctly and feel that the output files somehow fail to reach the speaker.

I'll appreciate very much help from anyone.

Just to see if there is anything seriously awry with your recordings, can you try for one of them:

ffprobe -hide_banner trackfilename

Of course it may just be that you aren't actually recording anything. Does your microphone work with any other applications e.g. Skype?

hygrurga,

The ffprobe command produces "Protocol not found". My microphone works with the arecord audio recorder. You may be right in that I am not recording anything even though audio-recorder produces an output (.ogg or .wav).

Thanks for your input.

If you have not done so, install the Pulse Audio Mixer (pavucontrol) and check the settings. It's in the repos.

Frank,

Thanks very much for your nice suggestion. Yes, I've installed pavucontrol and checked its settings. It works with arecord but not audio-recording. I think I'll just leave audio-recording alone for now since arecord works quite well and meets my needs. Thanks very much again.
