Linux Mandrake 10.1

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to Linux and have been working in Fedore Core 2 for a while, now I have installed Mandrake 10.1 and what an absolute nice looking UI. I love the nicely organised "Start Menu" (Star Menu :-)).

Is it just me or is there another way of installing apps etc. in Mandrake 10.1. I tried installing Firefox, Thunderbird and WINE, but with no luck. The installations was such a breeze with Fedora, but I am really struggling since Christmas Day with the installing of the above mentioned software. I have tried different ways with different software - e.g. the WINE I have is an RPM file, the Thunderbird is a tar.gz file that does not even need to be installed (can just un-tar and run), and the Firefox as far as I remember is a bin file. In Fedora, my Modem worked just fine (had to hack it a bit, but it worked at least). In Mandrake I can not even install the driver because it is complaining with an "slusb: Unknown symbol usb_endpoint_halted" error.

Hope someone can help me out here because I would prefer not to revert back to Core 2 because of the user friendliness of the GUI.

If someone can help me out, I am trying to do all installs in Terminals.

Thanks !!

Mandrake uses URPMI to deal with installations. URPMI is very user-friendly and very easy to use.
