Linux Kerne;

I am running Linux 7.0 with Kernel 2.2.16-22.

Can I upgrade my kernel out of sequence with lets say the newest one or do I need do them in sequence.

As far as patchs where would I find the patch to add in support for Promise ATA 100 support.

Thanks

Dan Moyer

Linux 7.0? As far as I know, linux is usually numbered based on the kernel number ;-)

But, to not be snippy, yes, it is quite possible to switch to the newest kernel -- there is no need whatsoever to go in sequence.

In terms of Promise ATA 100 support, to me it looks like it may be supported with the stock kernel (I am running 2.4.20). The following is from the make xconfig help and is perhaps what you are looking for.

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PDC202XX:

Promise Ultra33 or PDC20246
Promise Ultra66 or PDC20262
Promise Ultra100 or PDC20265/PDC20267/PDC20268

This driver adds up to 4 more EIDE devices sharing a single
interrupt. This add-on card is a bootable PCI UDMA controller. Since multiple cards can be installed and there are BIOS ROM problems that happen if the BIOS revisions of all installed cards (three-max) do not match, the driver attempts to do dynamic tuning of the chipset at boot-time for max-speed. Ultra33 BIOS 1.25 or newer is required for more than one card. This card may require that you say Y to "Special UDMA Feature".

If you say Y here, you need to say Y to "Use DMA by default when
available" as well.
