If you know the root password (which you should, you were asked to enter it when you installed linux) then type it when it asks you and then type
Code:
 fsck
or
Code:
 fsck /dev/hdXB
where X is the drive and B is the partition (if it's on the primary partition of your first disk then that would be /dev/hda1 , second partition of a second disk would be /dev/hdb2 etc)

Hi...

If you have forgotten the root password, you can always change it. This is how u r gonna do that:

At the GRUB splash screen, press 'a' and then press 'spacebar' and then '1' and press 'enter'

Once it will log you into a root shell, then use the 'passwd' command to change your root password.

If you arent even able to view the Grub splash screen then do the following to change root password:

1: Boot with RedHat CD1, on the boot prompt type

linux rescue

2. Select your Language, Keyboard etc and then

3. You will see a message which says that the system has been mounted under /mnt/sysimage..select Ok and then give the command

chroot /mnt/sysimage

4. Now, just give the command

passwd

and enter your new password.

Hope that helps..

Regards,

amit
