Linux Databases
 

What program is there for linux that handles databases and can do forms and such? Does OO.o have a program in its suite that'll do it? Could someone help me out. Thanks

You can run OOs scalc against an ODBC data-source
like PostgreSQL or MySQL ... there's also rekall (which
is supposedly working similar to access), but which only
crashes on my machines. :)

OOo 2.0 is going to have a database frontend or one builtin and the pre-releases with it are out now, though I've yet to try it. As Tink says, though, you can do some of it now.

Nice to hear it, but I am really frustrated that it is too late for our company :-(.
Three years ago we partially converted from MSOffice to StarOffice. We could have fully converted to SO, if only it had a good frontend for databases. Of course StarOffice had one, but it was not very good: I could not prepare a good user interface for a relational database for months. I was really devoted and paid much effort to it, but I was always faced with a new bug that prevented success, no matter how I tried.
I had some hopes in OpenOffice but its database support was reduced under the level of the bottom of a baby frog (as the educated Hungarian would say).

So I had to do it in MSAccess in two weeks, and MSOffice remained in the key positions.
Since the bosses had MSOffice, others wanted it too. By know there are only a few who still use StarOffice (or OpenOffice) at our company...

My only consolation is that Linux is just spreading for internet usage among my colleagues (with my little help). So MS still seems to be loosing some positions.

By the way: I heard something that the mysql guys have developped a user- and administrator interface for mysql. Have anyone tried it?
