Linux Counterparts

I like to waste my free time by making movies in flash, and creating really-bad looking "movies" by making .bmp files in MS Paint, then stringing them together in MS Movie Maker. Are there any linux alternatives to these programs? I would really just like a utility that does somthing similar to Windows Movie Maker, and if there is also a flash creator I would love that also.

mencoder (part of mplayer) can encode video's from jpegs.
and you can create jpegs with kpaint.

kpaint is part ok kdemultimedia (www.kde.org)
and mplayer (www.mplayerhq.hu)
