Linux Classes and Schools
 

I live in the Dallas area, and I am interested in attending school to learn linux. I am not interested in the 5 day crash course classes. I want a thorugh understand of everything to do with linux: inside, outside, and upside down. Does such a class exist? Do they teach linux in colleges?

Check your computer science classes. Although I doubt they teach "Linux" they may teach Unix or programming in a linux environment, or Systems Administration in a Unix Environment.

This may not be what you are looking for exactly, but I've learned a lot about Linux but doing the LFS (Linux From Scratch) build. I started with Slackware 10 to learn a few things and then tried Fedora Core 2. I used FC2 as a host to build an LFS system and you really learn the ins and outs of the OS that way. Can be pretty time consuming though, but it is worth the knowledge you gain. Their website is www.linuxfromscratch.com. I did a LFS 5.1 and 6.0 build. I like the 6.0 better, although it is still in the "testing" phase. It has actually been around for awhile now and has been quite stable for me so far.

Ive used all the major distros over the years, not LFS though. There are lots of gaps that need to be filled in my quest to become TRUELY proficient. Like all the shell commands and their switches, run levels, services, just about anything. I can get most anything done, but i would love to master it. Ive been using linux for 5 years, and I still run into trouble on certain things. Thats why I think a couple months behind a computer with a super linux master guru/teacher would really pull things together for me.
