Hey everyone,

To make a long story short, I don't have my administrator password for my Windows boot because somehow it got reset. I could reset it with a tool called "ntpasswd", but it needs a clean NTFS partition to mount it. I can't clean the partition with recovery console because it needs the admin password. So its like a cyclic problem.... need clean ntfs partition to reset password... need password to run chkdsk....

So I was wondering if there is a linux tool to clean an ntfs partition before i give up and reformat?

yeah thats the one i'm having problems with:

it requires a clean partition which mine is not

I also just tried "ntfsfix" for linux on it, it didn't fix anything and its supposed to schedule a chkdsk on the next reboot but it never runs.

I hope you mean you tried a Windoze reboot ...

yeah a winblowz reboot, goes straight to login screen

ophcrack can't seem to crack the admin password either

Mmmm, must admit I've never had to use ntfsfix - I always force the chkdsk from 'doze.
Sorry, if ntfsfix doesn't do it I don't know any other way.

Perhaps you could run chkdisk on it from a MSwindows LiveCD. I understand there are a couple of those floating around?

Another choice might be putting the drive in another computer that has MS installed, and run chkdisk from that drive.
