Linux boot error

i get this error on red hat nine boot it says: Could not look up internet address for x1-6-00-50-ba-bd-76-40.
This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
It may be possible to correct the problem by adding
x1-6-00-50-ba-bd-76-40 to the file /etc/hosts. Can someone tell me how to fix this. Im a newbie.

it sounds like you've got auto ip configured in your kernel.......
are you running an ethernet connection??
if so, are you running a loopback device ??
try running ifconfig (from the console) and put the results here,
