Linux-based Exchange Alternatives

Folks around my company are interested in evaluating the market for Linux-based Exchange alternatives. Ballpark parameters include:

1. Works with Outlook, preferably without extensions. Automatic re-assignment to new mail server a big plus.
2. Minimal loss of Exchange/Outlook functionality. Group calendaring, delegation, public folders a must.
3. Migration path for all current Exchange 2003 items.
4. Account maintenance and provisioning through Active Directory a major plus.

I’ve taken a brief look at Scalix, Zimbra, Kerio MailServer and Ipswitch ICS. Does anyone have any experience with these and/or information on other possibilities that they’d like to share?

Many thanks . . .

open-xchange.org has an open source exchange equivalent, plus a commercial version, it does require outlook connectors and the connector software has per seat licensing.

I would like to jump on this band wagon. Does anybody know a decent server with the features mentioned in the first post however one that is not severly crippled with price tags?

Hi

I have been looking for an Exchange replacement for nearly 2 years with no success, not if you want all the above functionality, and no cost (per seat licensing) of a connector. The closest I got was SMEServer (e-smith) and a product from www.smeworkplace.co.uk,but they have been promising to release version 8.01 for the last 8 months with no release.
There is also a OpenSource Exchange replacement at Source forge, but it is in early development

Cheers
