Linux and Windows Me

Hi all, I have win me on a quantum 40 gig 7200 hard drive and corel linux on a 20 gig 5400 hard drive. The phoenix bios does recognize both drives. Win as primary master and linux as secondary master. I cannot get access to the linux drive from a cold start with a boot diskette that came with the box. I cannot see the drive that linux is on from windows. It doesn't seem to recognize the drive even though the bios does. It does work because when the 20 gig drive was hooked up as primary master, linux loaded up no problem and worked great. Should I switch drives around or do I need something called LILO?

Please help me!

windows can't see the drive, as it dones't know what to do with it... cos windoze is lame...

yeah, you need to have installed lilo to be able to use both systems, you've probably already got lilo running on the linux drive.

the simplest thing you should do is to put linux on the primary master, and put windows on the pri slave. you'll then need to edit your /etc/lillo.conf file to make windows think that when it boots it's actaully the master, when it isn't. in my lilo.conf file i have:

other=/dev/hdb1
label=windows
table=/dev/hdb
map-drive=0x80
to=0x81
map-drive=0x81
to=0x80

which is all you need to make it all work, assuming you're using lilo that is... which you should be already without knowing. with the drives as i said, edit that file and add that to the end, and you should be fine. and then run 'lilo' as root. paste your lilo.conf file in here if you want more help...

what don't you understand?

you don't install lilo on windows, it's all under linux all the time, it will just give you an extra option on your boot menu to load windows properly...
