I was a newbie too...and on this forum I am still. Only 6 more posts to go until I can reach 'member' status. Heh.
I learned a lot using Mandrake Linux. It was my first distribution. But I wanted to understand the workings of Linux so I chose Slackware. When I get braver I'll try Gentoo or Linux From Scratch.
In either case, welcome to the Linux world. Hopefully SCO doesn't f*** it up for us.

Thanks Slack ---Everything is going good ---Learning something new everyday ---Doing a lot of reading about Linux .On boot up everything was fine , My son must have used the PC today .So on boot up I see Starting ACPI failed .But it still loads .Nothing failed in the last week .What does that stand for & is it of anthing important without it loading ? Thanks much.

Its a power configuration issue. ACPI = Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I generally leave it alone, but there is an option in the bootmanager that turns it on or off. That is also in the Mandrake Control Center.
