Arrow Linux

i have read all the forums based on this subject before... but i dont want to spend all of my time trying to find a good linux distro that fits my needs. i have already downloaded redhat, evilentity, and mandrake. mandrake is a pain in the ass because whenever i play 3d games, (even the ones that came with the OS) it chugs, maybe at about 1 frame per second. and that bugs this s**t out of me. how do they expect me to play warcraft 3 with that lag, ARE YOU NUTS!? i need a nice newbie linux disro, with little lag, high proformance, and fairly easy interface (not a interface that resembles withdows, although i didnt mind mandrake 9.1, besides the lag)

P.S i havnt used redhat yet, i just have the 6 CD's (i think its six)

respond within 2 hours of original post please.

do you seriously think that's a good way to ask for help? That's just rude, please or no please. if you have read all the information on this site and sites like distrowatch.com then i can't realy believe you should feel the need to ask it again.

you say that mandrake is slow... that's incorrect. it will be the graphics driver you are using, and that is not related to the distro you are using in the slightest.

and redhat is only 2 discs, a third if you're really greedy last time i looked. no idea what you managed to get 6 cd's worth of...

Well, if you want to have a newbie distro Mandrake is a good choice. Try to locate your problem, what graphic chip do you have, have you installed the correct driver, etc.

RedHat is nice, if you don't want to compile anything, and if you just want to use rpm's and GUI.

On the other side, there is SuSE, newbiefriendly. However, I don't know wether you can play 3D-Games without configuration.

I would suggest you RedHat, it's pretty nice, and maybe you will have fun with it..

Thanks for your help, i was thinking about trying redhat. by the way i have a NVIDIA TNT2 video card... its a nice model and runs nice on windows... do i have to install the update to the driver on linux too? i am going to buy an ethernet cord from bestbuy in a couple of minutes.... i still cant figure out why i cant get on-line using my USB connection.... ohh well.. i will try installing the driver update when i get home and i have an internet connection on linux... then if it speeds it up i will stay with mandrake, otherwise i will switch to redhat.

thanks for your help. sorry if the post was rude man....

Well gee, if your 3D games aren't playing well, do you think it might be time for a little troubleshooting?
I just love seeing good, legitmate questions get ignored in favor of a waste of bandwidth like this thread.
I suggest buying Lindows or Lycoris so you can get an easy to use, dumbed down distro and corporate support since it's obvously too much trouble for you to search Google or these forums before posting.
The moderators sure have a lot patience on this site. More than I would have.

OK, here's a public apology. I shouldn't have come down so hard on you. I don't have the patience to be a moderator, that's for sure. I'm frustrated over one of my own Linux problems that has been ignored completely here. I have to stop being so negative. Good job on troubleshooting it. I am now going to see if you have any other posts I can HELP with instead of bitch about
