Linux

This is my first post, so hello everybody.

As i type this, i am downloading fedora core 5, but before i install it i have a few questions.

Is there an audeo/video codec package for linux? The versions i have messed around with before had very poor video and audeo support, and that was really the only thing that made me switch back to windows.

Also, is fedora core 5 a good choice? I have read that fedora is a great "flavor", but how about core 5?

thankyou.

fedora is fine, it's officailly for developers of redhat, and but be a bit unreliable, but it's certainly very friendly. one good advantage you'll find with fedora is you can go to livna.org and add their site to your yum repositories (their package management tool) and get all the audio and ideo codecs automatically.

btw. please use better titles in future. thanks

Consider giving Ubuntu a try too. The download is just one CD image, and they'll even post you CDs for free anywhere in the world if you request them. Once you've installed the base system, you can use Easy Ubuntu to [extremely simply] install things like proprietary 3D video drivers, flash, proprietary video and audio codecs and other non-free stuff.
