Linking Apache and Tomcat

I am a bit of a newbie to the administration side of Linux.

I have Tomcat 4.01 and Apache 1.3.23 set-up and working on my SuSE Linux server. Both work ok in isolation but I want to use Apache to service my static pages and use Tomcat for running servlets.

How do I link the two together?

All of the information that I have found on the web does not work. It witters on about workers.conf, and properties.jk2 files that I haven't got.

Does anyone have clear, concise (preferably idiot proof) instructions to accomplish the linkage of the two applications?

TIA - Keith

Did you successfully build/install mod_jk2? What configuration options did you add to your httpd.conf?

I downloaded mod_jk2, put in the /usr/lib/apache directory and added LoadModule and AddModule(?) entries in hpptd.conf for it. But no joy.

I looked at anothe source and it said I need to change properties.jk and workers.jk but I don't have these.

I have read quite a lot on the web about this but mot of of it seems to be contradictory

Is /usr/lib/apache the location where the rest of your modules are located? Also, in your httpd.conf, did you add the appropriate JK directives for the workers file, etc?

Stickman,

Thanks for your time. Things have changed since yesterday.

I have removed the old Apache and Tomcat, downloaded the latest versions (Apache 2.0.50, Tomcat 5.5.1 and the JDK 1.4) and installed them using the instructions on http://www.sitepoint.com/print/jsp-q...rt-guide-linux (more power to Kevin). Only one (minor?) glitch insofar as I cannot contact Tomcat using localhost:8080. Apache is fine. Tomcat seems to start and end without error - at least no messages - but can't be contacted. It is there, I can see it's PID.

I pressed on with Kevin's instructions regardless but when I got to the stage where it should generate a file no file appeared

I have rechecked all of my typing (mostly I copied it anyway) and checked the paths. All seems to be as it should be. I'm a bit at a loss now.

Cheers - Keith
