Red face LimeWire Shortcut Will Not Launch

Thanks to the great help provided in this forum, I was able to successfully install Java Virtual Machine and Limewire on Red Hat.

LimeWire is installed in the /root/limewire directory. I am able to launch it if I log in as root, navigate to the folder, and select the icon labeled "Limewire.jar"

For some reason, if I create a desktop shortcut (either as a user or root) to the same "Limewire.jar" file, Limewire will not launch.

Does anyone have any suggestions for making the shortcuts work correctly.

I am pretty new to linux (i.e. it is taking me days and even weeks to research items and get them installed and configured). I thought I should mention this because I am going to need a little "spoon feeding" to get up and running. (Some postings contain commands, switches, and file instructions that I haven't the slightest idea how to implement).

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you running as root?

I read somewhere that you avoid problems and are able to make installations available to all users if you install via the root user. The idea was to log in long enough to install and make the shortcuts.

Perhaps I misunderstood the reading about installing as root user. Should I reinstall as a user?
