LILO stuck in uninterruptable sleep

While playing with runlevels and x, i rebooted and instead of x I got a console login in vga normal mode, made some changes to lilo.conf and ran lilo.

Lilo stuck after adding the last kernel in the .conf file. (Something called dialog -- an error message was also running should have killed it first)
I tried killing lilo and it wont die. Ps lists it with a "D" flag which according to the ps man page is "uninterruptable sleep".
The research Ive done so far says that a program will sometimes go into uninterruptable sleep if its trying and failing to access a remote file system, the remote file system in this case is the MBR of my machine.
I tried kill -9 no dice.
Anyway to kill this thing?

HELLLLLLPPPPPP!

Im afraid to reboot this computer

Hey! Looks like its gonna be another one of those threads where I just carry on with it my self (warning: this may be illegal in some parts of the bible belt)

Anyway after biting the bullet and rebooting a couple of times to see what happended I discovered that (lilo-22.3.2-5mdk) gets stuck with a "D" flag in ps (unkillable) when run on kernel 2.6.0test2. It finishes ok on 2.4, but on the only 2.6 kernel I tried it with got stuck. Any other brave souls want to experiment with this? Some kind of I/O problem apparently. Comments?
