Lilo: set an image file as root

Hello!
I've got an image file of an ext3 partition, and i would like to have it mounted as a root partition.
How can i tell this to lilo? Can this be done just by editing lilo.conf?

I've also thought of building an initrd image, loading it, and use the linuxrc script to set the ext3 image file as root.
Can this be done?

Thank you!

You have to edit lilo.conf, run the lilo command, and make changes to /etc/fstab.
