LILO: Descriptor checksum error

My machine (linux + win98) does not boot anymore, but says:

LILO: Descriptor checksum error

I have a boot disk for linux, but I donīt have one for windows! (still need some stuff from there...)

Should I reinstall lilo? Is that enough?

Iīm automatically logged as user. How can I login as root? (yes, newbie question...)

tks for your help
