I think it's rxvt. Xterm is a good second though...

yhe I heard it is good, I also heard about mrxvt which is a multi-tab version of it, not sure if it is as good as the original is it ?

urxvt (rxvt-unicode) has a server - client mode: you launch a daemon to which several clients can attach. It reduces resource usage when you have several urxvt opened. Screen+urxvt is also a nice combination.
